COGNITIVE CONNECT USING BRAIN GAUGE
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Objective
To determine if the use of brain stimulating games over a 7 week period, changed the quality of life in elders.

Abstract

For this term project we were each assigned 2 to 3 seniors that may show signs of early cognition impairment. As part of our research, we administered a Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to assess cognition and a Quality of Life Scale to each participant on the first and last day of meeting. Each participant was introduced to several different mind stimulating games provided on a Google Chromebook. These games are meant to assist in mental improvement with the hopes of improving quality of life for seniors.

Use of the Materials
Chromebooks:
The Chromebooks were provided with pre-installed applications, including the app by Cortical Metrics that is used with Brain Gauge. The pre-installed games in the Chromebooks can be seen here. You can find them in the Google Play Store.

Brain Gauge:
The Brain Gauge was used in the first and last session to measure any changes in cognition.
More information about the Brain Gauge can be found here.

MoCA:
The MoCA assessment was given to the seniors on the first and last week of the project as well. It was done to see if the games brought about a change in the results of the test.

Quality of Life Survey:
The Quality of Life Scale was also given to the seniors on the first and last week of the project to measure any changes in quality of life.

Journal:
Each student was given a notebook to keep weekly session notes that kept track of activity, interactions, and observations in mood.
